Welcome Back to the Blog

This is a painting entitle "Work" by Ford Madox Brown. It was painted circa 1852-65. Here is a link to the painting as well. Please choose your lens through which to view the artwork. (Another visual avenue.) Bring your notes to share tomorrow.

This portrait really gave me an insight on the views of human society. If it's in the matters of race, culture, marxism, gender, belief, or psychoanalytic theres something definitly going on in this picture. The one thing out of may that I saw was the stereotyping of the working class and how they maybe refered to as "dogs" or that the concept that a dog in peoples cloths could mean that their actually treated better than the working class. At first I really couldn't tell at first but as you can see in the bottom part of the picture you can see a number of the canine species right by the working women.
