"This is hell Dante, not your personal fantasy."

(Sandow Birk's picture of Greyon from Dante's Inferno)

Don't know if you remember, but I showed you a few photo copies of artist's conceptions of Dante's Inferno. I recommend checking out this movie trailer for Sandow Birk's film that dramatizes the Inferno using puppets. Here's a description from the web site:

DANTE’S INFERNO has been kicking around the cultural playground for over 700 years. But it has never before been interpreted with exquisitely hand-drawn paper puppets, brought to life using purely hand-made special effects. Until now. Rediscover this literary classic, retold in a kind of apocalyptic graphic novel meets Victorian-era toy theater. Dante’s Hell is brought to lurid 3-dimensional, high-definition life in a darkly comedic travelogue of the underworld — set against an all-too-familiar urban backdrop of used car lots, gated communities, strip malls, and the U.S. Capitol. And populated with a contemporary cast of reprobates, including famous — and infamous — politicians, presidents, popes, pimps. And the Prince of Darkness himself.

I thought the clip explained alot. It gave it a different approach in sending the news out. I thought the clip was a neat way.

haha wow. that clip. my first thoughts were of a cross between the twilight zone and a show one could find on adult swim.

it was interesting how they seemed to compare the physical make up of hell with that of new york city. i mean, i'm only assuming that was new york city. technically it could have been any urban setting. it just accentuated the diversity that exists even in a world that has only general labels. hell is "evil", full of sinners. this clip focused on the fact that there are greater depths then that.

the imagery was simplistic but at the same time, it had an impact. you don't need a complex painting to express a deep felt emotion on someone's face.

i think the comedic factor was truly the cherry on top. this is the type of material i have privately deemed "colmen-esque" and i love every minute of it.

I thought the clip was funny. It might not have been intended to be funny but I liked how they put a modern spin on their interpretation.

P.S. You should get that movie and we should watch it in class!
